Simone Capecci
ITALY
Situated in the hills of Ripatransone in the province of Ascoli Piceno, Azienda Agricola Simone Capecci is a fourth-generation family estate whose philosophy can be summed up in three words: we make wine. Nothing more, nothing less. Simone farms 30 hectares of certified organic vineyards on clay-rich soils between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine mountains, a landscape that shapes everything about his wines. His approach is quietly radical: rather than follow winemaking traditions that didn't serve his vines, he chose the most difficult pathway, pioneering concrete tank fermentation and reduction techniques to preserve the most delicate aromas that nature provides. The result is wines of exceptional purity, freshness and identity, each one named and storytelling in its own right, each rooted in the indigenous varieties of the Marche: Pecorino, Passerina, Montepulciano and Sangiovese. Simone's family were instrumental in rescuing Pecorino from near-extinction in 1990, replanting historic vines in collaboration with the Marche agricultural authority. Today those same vines produce some of central Italy's most compelling whites.
