Goulburn & Murray Darling

The Goulburn Valley and Murray Darling are two important wine-producing regions in Australia, each with distinct characteristics. The Goulburn Valley, located in central Victoria, is one of the country’s oldest wine-growing areas and is particularly renowned for its Shiraz, which often shows rich fruit concentration and great ageing potential. It also produces standout Marsanne, a rare white variety that thrives in the warm climate and is celebrated for its longevity. Further north, the Murray Darling region—straddling Victoria and New South Wales—is one of Australia’s largest wine-producing zones, supplying a significant proportion of the country’s bulk and commercial wines. With its hot, dry climate and reliable irrigation from the Murray River, the region is well-suited to high-yielding vineyards, producing approachable wines with ripe fruit flavours across a range of varieties, including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Together, these regions highlight both the artisanal heritage and large-scale production that define Australian wine.
